Project 1: Modelling of an Architectural Design / 5 Perspective Views of the Building

Project 1: Modelling of an Architectural Design / Creating Doors (Bridge)

Set view with Edged Faces to see edges of the form.

Extrude > Parameters > Segment: 2.

Set as Elevation View > Edit Poly > Vertex > Select all middle Vertex.
Move in Y-direction to the level of height of door frame.

Set as Perspective View and select the face where I need to do a bridge above the door.

Choose 2 surfaces at the same time and I can even do 2 bridges at the same time.

Edit Poly > Polygon > Insert Vertex > Bridge.

Project 1: Modelling of an Architectural Design / Form of Swimming Pool (Boolean & Inset)

I'm doing a form of swimming pool at Underground Floor.
1 Boolean
2 Inset

Create a shape of swimming pool in AutoCAD and Extrude it in 3ds Max.

Move the form of swimming pool at a position where it could intersect with the floor slab.

Click on the form of swimming pool > Compound Objects > Boolean.
Pick Operand B > Pick the Floor Slab.

Operation > Subtraction (B-A).

Click the second form of swimming pool.
Edit Poly > Polygon > Insert Vertex > Inset > Type value (The value is the edge dimension of swimming pool).

Delete the inner part to create the empty part of swimming pool.

Form of swimming pool is formed.

Project 1: Modelling of an Architectural Design / Plan

The next progress should be:
1 Doing the windows and doors detail.
2 Roof part.
3 Combine all parts.
4 Site form: Contour.

Project 1: Modelling of an Architectural Design / Construction of wall and floor slab for Underground Floor

P A R T   1

Now I'm doing the same thing as for Underground Floor.

Problem: There's curved surface in floor plan, surface is not able to be created and I am not able to extrude the wall.

Solution: Create polyline individually for angular-shaped floor plan and curvy floor plan.

Again,
"Presspull" AutoCAD floor plan.
Surface is created.
Import to the 3ds Max.
Edit Poly > Polygon > Insert Vertex > Extrude > Type Height Value.

The wall is extruded successfully (with content).

P A R T   2

Problem: Floor slab size is too big and not in the coverage of wall.

Solution: Adjust vertex position at Top View.

P A R T   3:

Completion of Underground Floor in terms of wall and floor slabs.

Project 1: Modelling of an Architectural Design / Compilation of Layers (3D Model)

When different layers of components are finished constructed, it's time to attach layer to layer.
Wall and floor slabs are combined as an architectural model.

I am adjusting the layers in Elevation View and making sure they are moving at 1 axis only (Z-axis).

One floor is done (in terms of wall and floor slabs).

Project 1: Modelling of an Architectural Design / Modelling through Adjustment of Vertex

I adjusted the height of wall by moving the vertex in Elevation View.
Edit Poly > Vertex

Height of wall (with problem) is adjusted as the height of the other wall.

Project 1: Modelling of an Architectural Design / Pre-3DS Max: AutoCAD drawing of Floor Plan (Presspull)

Before creating 3D model in 3ds Max, I firstly create the AutoCAD file of floor plan first.
I used Polyline to create them so that the lines are all connected well, as shown in the image above.
Different elements of the building are created in different layers so that I can extrude them at different dimensions/height individually.

So I had divided my building elements to:
1 Floor slab

2 Higher-level floor slab
3 Wall

I scaled the building plan in AutoCAD first.
Then, I do Extrude (Modifier List) in 3ds Max and adjust the Amount (Parameters).

Problem: When I extruded the plan, I found out that the wall is hollow with no content inside. The wall should have content filled inside.

Solution:
"Presspull" the polyline to create surface.
Import the CAD polyline into the 3ds Max.
Edit Poly > Polygon > Insert Vertex > Extrude > Type Height Value.

Content Filled.

Project 1: Modelling of an Architectural Design / Introduction and Selection of Building

This project requires us to produce 3D model of a selected architectural design using 3DS Max/Rhinoceros or both. This involves completion of basic form and external model of a selected architectural design. 3D models will be assessed on the:
1 Overall detail
2 Complexity
3 Creativity
used in the creation and development process.

I decided to choose my Design Studio 2 final project Boat House as my architectural building in this project.

This is the overall look of building that I've selected.

Overall look of ground floor.

Overall look of underground floor.

Work in progress and test renderings will be uploaded in the next post.
